The Modern Door-to-Door Salesman (written for Doorhanger Delivery)
The old style of door-to-door selling has gone by the wayside as more and more families are required to have both adults in the household working, leaving the house empty for the daytime hours when most of these sales and demonstrations used to take place. However, door to door selling will still be an effective tool, but in a slightly different form - the door hanger advertisement. This method of selling is unobtrusive, convenient, and pretty much guarantees that everyone will see at least some portion of the information. In the days of door-to-door salesmen, people would hide, not answer the door, or rudely tell the seller to get lost. With door hangers, homeowners don't have to think about doing any of these things, and the advertiser gets all of the same advantages, plus a bigger potential market.
The real advantage for the businesses that choose to advertise this way is that there's really nothing the homeowner can do to stop it. Clients can get themselves on the "do not call" list, set their spam-blockers to stop messages, and have their names removed from mailing lists that sell their information, but it's almost impossible to stop someone from walking up to their doors and hanging a flyer on it. Even those with fenced yards still have a mailbox flag the sign can be hung from.
Delivery providers and utility companies hang tags like this now to notify the resident of a package waiting to be delivered or a pending outage in their area. People are used to seeing them and expecting them to have pertinent information. The homeowner will very likely remove them and at the very least start to read them before figuring their relevance. With a catchy or attention-grabber headline on one side, they're even more likely to flip it over and see what it's all about. With a well-crafted advertising message, the door hanger can be an unbelievably useful marketing tool.
